On October 15, 2021 Officer William Bowers came to the aid of David Killian, an elderly gentleman who had traveled from his home in Rhode Island to the Town of Fishkill to attend a funeral of a friend he had served with in the U.S. Navy.
After attempting to get a hotel room, Mr. Killian came to the Town of Fishkill Police Department to ask if it was okay if he slept in his vehicle in the parking lot as he did not feel safe anywhere else. The veteran explained he was unprepared to pay the cost of a night at a hotel.
Upon learning of his predicament, Officer Bowers proceeded to a local hotel and explained the situation to the manager who offered a reduced government rate to the elderly veteran. Officer Bowers then proceeded to pay for the room with his own money as a tribute to Mr. Killian in honor of his service to our country. Mr. Killian was very touched by the compassion, kindness and generosity shown by Officer Bowers.
