On November 10, 2021 At approximately 12:15 am, officers were dispatched to a local adult home for an emotionally disturbed individual threatening himself and others. Upon arrival of the first officer it was determined that the subject had a butcher knife in his possession and was applying pressure to his left wrist, threatening to harm himself.

The first officer on the scene assessed the situation and immediately called for assistance. Additional officers from the Town of Fishkill Police responded as well as NYSP Troop K Wappingers.

Officer William Bowers and Dane Wakefield immediately established a repour with the subject. Clearly in a mental health crisis, officers utilized their crisis intervention and de escalation training techniques to negotiate with the suicidal subject.

After negotiating with the subject, Officer Bowers was able to convince the male to release pressure he had applied to his wrist with the knife and voluntarily place the weapon on the bed next to him surrendering it safely to police.

The male was then transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital by officers without further incident.
